Installation

Does your garden look something like this? Let South Coast Grass transform your outdoor space in time for Summer. Below is a step-by-step guide to how we will install your perfect lawn. If you require further information or have any questions please contact us.

Step 1. Turf removal

Any existing turf will be cleared with a turf cutter. This is done to remove any persistent weeds and roots, leaving a clear, level ground layer on which to build a base.

Step 2. Weed Proof Membrane

Once the area is cleared, a weed proof membrane is laid in overlapping strips and secured with nails. This ensures that your new lawn will be weed free. Other companies may choose to put this on top of the base but we have found that it can move whilst you are getting your grass into place which can cause unsightly bumps.

Step 3. Secure Fixing

A perimeter is built around the designated lawn area. This will consist of concreted in hidden timbers or a simple concrete fillet and will sit just below the level you wish your grass to be cut too. Once the grass has been fitted it will be secured to these fixings.

Step 4. Building a new sub base layer

A 3-4 inch layer of compacted scalpings (Type 1) is laid and levelled as a base for your new lawn. The composition of these scalpings will form a solid, stable platform for your grass, whilst allowing good drainage.

Step 5. Levelling with granite dust

A thin layer of granite dust is used to top the sub base to fill in any gaps left by the larger Type 1 scalpings and ensure a smooth surface for the grass.

Step 6. Laying and fitting of artifical grass

The grass is rolled out and into position. A bolster chisel is then used to push it into the edges before it is carefully cut to fit perfectly. If the grass requires a join, this will be done with joining tape and glue which will not be visible when the grass has had time to bed in. Once the grass is joined and cut, it is nailed or glued onto the fixings and power brushed for a perfect finish.

Step 7. Sit back, relax and enjoy
